Sharks Release 2013-14 Schedule, To Open At SAP Vs. Canucks
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- The 2013-14 NHL schedule is out, with realigned divisions, and it has the San Jose Sharks opening the season with a big game at home in the Shark Tank at SAP Center against the Vancouver Canucks on Oct. 3, which will be the start of a three-game homestand.
The Sharks beat the Canucks in the first round of the 2013 NHL playoffs, as they swept the third-seeded Canucks to kick off the postseason. The Canucks are on a quest for revenge, and their quest will start in San Jose. The Sharks' first road contest a week later, on Oct. 10, is also against the Canucks.
The division realignment means that there will be two seven-team divisions in the Western Conference and two eight-team divisions in the Eastern Conference. The Sharks, Canucks, Anaheim Ducks, Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings and Phoenix Coyotes will compete in the Pacific division of the West.
In all, the Sharks schedule consists of 82 games - balanced evenly with 41 home and 41 road contests.
Due to the NHL's participation in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, the Sharks will have a 19-day break from Feb. 8 until their Feb. 27 game at Philadelphia.
San Jose will conclude its season in Phoenix on April 12.
