7 Rescued After Fire Department Boat Capsizes Near Cliff House At SF Lands End

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Seven members of the San Francisco Fire Department were thrust into the ocean after a rescue boat capsized in San Francisco Saturday morning.

At 11:15 a.m., the boat capsized for an unknown reason just offshore at Lands End near the Cliff House, according to a fire spokesman John Baxter.

The members were conducting a routine drill at the time, Baxter said.

The U.S. Coast Guard assisted with the rescue, according to USCG spokeswoman Lt. Leigh Van Lear.

Two members were rescued by good Samaritans, two other members were able to assist themselves and the three remaining members were rescued by the fire department, Van Lear said.

All seven members have since been accounted for. Four members were hospitalized with minor injuries, according to Baxter.

It may take a few days to retrieve the capsized vessel.

The fire department is investigating the incident.
