SF Supervisor Wants Progress Report From PG&E, PUC About Burned Out Street Lights
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— San Francisco Supervisor Scott Wiener wants to know if the City Public Utilities Commission and PG&E have improved their performance when it comes to fixing burned-out street lights.
A little over a year ago Wiener held a hearing to get action on the large number of street lights that don't light up at night, but the last he checked things seemed pretty dismal.
At that time there were about 6,000 burned out lights a year and it was taking as long as a month to repair them. Now he's calling for another hearing to see if anything has changed.
"We regularly receive calls about burnt out street lights. That doesn't necessarily mean that there hasn't been a difference, so we really need to see the underlying data," Wiener said.

Last year the city also established a policy to replace tall street lights designed to assist cars with shorter fixtures to light sidewalks for pedestrians. He said that's still not happening.
Weiner plans to grill both the City PUC and PG&E on what progress they have made to improve response time to burned out street lights and replace existing lights with ones that are pedestrian friendly.
