SF Supervisor Pushes Predictable Schedules For Retail Store Workers
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS/AP) — A San Francisco supervisor wants retail stores to give their employees more predictable work schedules.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports Supervisor David Chiu on Tuesday will introduce legislation aimed at helping workers who are being given erratic schedules with little predictability.
The legislation would require managers at formula retail stores to post work schedules 14 days in advance and give workers extra pay for last-minute shift changes or cancellations. Part-time workers would have the same access to time-off requests and particular work schedules as full-time workers.
Chiu says many low-wage workers are struggling to juggle two or three part-time jobs and often have to give one up because of last-minute schedule changes.
Last year, Chiu pushed city legislation that gives workers the right to ask for family-friendly schedules.
