SF Police, Firefighters Distribute Toys From Lefty O'Doul's Christmas Donation Drive
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- San Francisco's Lefty O'Doul's restaurant and bar raised more than 10,000 toys during their 11th annual Christmas Eve toy drive, providing ample supplies for volunteer firefighters and police officers to distribute to the city's neediest children on Christmas Day, according to a restaurant spokesman.
San Francisco firefighters and police will fan across city neighborhoods starting at 8 a.m. Sunday morning to deliver toys collected at the Union Square restaurant and bar from 4:30 a.m. Saturday until last call at 2 a.m. Sunday, said restaurant spokesman Lee Houskeeper.
"By published reports there are 2,200 school aged children who are homeless," Houskeeper said earlier this week. "Who better than the police officers and the (firefighters) of this city who work with these people day in and day out to find them?"
The restaurant was able to meet its goal of matching last year's record toy collection of more than 10,000 toys, according to Houskeeper.
Toy donations will continue to be accepted until midnight Sunday at the restaurant, located at 333 Geary St. in San Francisco.
