SF Officials Tour Mission District, Look To Avoid Super Bowl Violence
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) — San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee toured the Mission District Wednesday in advance of Sunday's Super Bowl where 49ers fans are expected to congregate as they did for the Giants playoff run last fall.
Lee, dressed in a candy-apple red 49ers blazer, was joined by Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White and Police Chief Greg Suhr as they interacted with the district's business owners.
After the Giants won the World Series, some unruly fans set off garbage-fueled street fires that went into the early hours of the morning. One of the larger blazes occurred outside a popular bar at 19th and Mission streets.

Hayes-White said they have learned some lessons from the fires and that trash will be picked up ahead of time.
"In the event that there are fires we will be working closely with the P.D. in a task force," she said.
Phoenix Irish Pub on Valencia Street, with its 10 big screens, is expected to be a popular place to watch the big game. Manager Marissa Poulin said the visibly intoxicated will be cut off and there will be extra security in the event of rowdy crowds.
Meanwhile, Lee has been outspoken about alcohol consumption.
"The business of selling drinks is obviously important to people, but moderation for recognizing individuals who can't handle themselves; that will be the responsible thing to do," he said.
Dozens of extra San Francisco police officers will be on duty on Super Bowl Sunday.
