SF Mayor Grouses Over Laws Targeting Toys, Tours and Booze
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - A flurry of legislation coming from the Board of Supervisors unfairly targets the business community, said Mayor Gavin Newsom.
The surcharge on alcohol he vetoed in September turned out to be just the first volley. City lawmakers' efforts to mute loudspeakers on tour buses and to ban toy giveaways at fast food chains can only hurt city businesses, Newsom said Wednesday.
"I don't know what's happening at City Hall, just this rush to hurt the private sector over and over," he said.

Newsom was incredulous about the so-called Happy Meal ban meant to combat childhood obesity by discouraging children from eating food too high in fat, salt, sugar and calories.
"It's not really aiding our reputation," he said, suggesting tongue-in-cheek that the idea be taken even further.
"I just want to ban Jack in the Box, period, right? Cause I mean, that guy's one giant toy, right?"
And forcing visitors to use earphones to learn about San Francisco isn't very tourist friendly, he said.
