Bomb Threat At SF Jewish Community Center A Hoax
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - A bomb threat Tuesday morning at the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco in Laurel Heights appeared to have been a false alarm, a police spokesman said.
The center runs a fitness center, a preschool, and youth and adult classes, and a number of activities were under way when the threat came in by phone, spokesman Nathaniel Bergson-Michelson said.
Staff reported the threat to police at about 8:25 a.m. and evacuated the building.
"We take any call like that extremely seriously," Bergson-Michelson said.
Officers finished searching the building, located at 3200 California St., at about 10:45 a.m. without finding anything suspicious, Officer Albie Esparza said.
"At this point we don't know where it came from," Esparza said, adding that police will continue to investigate.
Police evacuated the building and blocked off an area near California Street and Presidio Avenue while they searched the structure. K-9 units were also brought in to determine if the threat had any merit.
