SF iPad Robbery Suspects Arrested After Police Chase, Crash
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5) – Three people suspected in an iPad robbery were arrested, following a high-speed chase that ended in a crash in San Francisco's Western Addition Wednesday afternoon.
According to San Francisco Police, a man jumped out of a silver colored Mercedes-Benz SUV and stole a woman's backpack with an iPad near Sacramento and Fillmore streets in the Pacific Heights neighborhood.
Witnesses notified police, which spotted the Mercedes-Benz. The driver took off at a high rate of speed through the Western Addition neighborhood, police said.
The chase ended when the SUV crashed into several cars, including a minivan, at the intersection of Hayes and Buchanan Streets around 5:30 p.m. At least two people were injured in the crash, according to police.
A CBS 5 news van was sideswiped by the SUV during the chase. The driver of the news van, a CBS 5 photographer, was not hurt.
The three suspects attempted to run away from the accident scene, but were quickly apprehended by police.
The driver of the minivan was injured in the crash and transported to San Francisco General Hospital. His condition was unknown Wednesday evening, Officer Carlos Manfredi said.
Two of the suspects, both men between the ages of 23 and 30, said they were injured and were transported to the hospital as well, where they remain under guard Wednesday evening.
The third suspect was a juvenile male that was also arrested.
Authorities have not released the names of the suspects. The case remains under investigation.
