SF Closer to Being Biker's Paradise
San Francisco began implementing its long delayed bicycle plan Monday, and the city started painting miles of new bike lanes that had been blocked by a judge.
For four years San Francisco had to redo its environmental impact report and wait to put its plan into action.
Mayor Gavin Newsom says all the while more people have been switching from four wheels to two.
"We saw a 54 percent increase in bicycling since the injunction was established," he said.
With Friday's lifting of the injunction, city officials can put the plan in place.
Renee Rivera of the San Francisco Bike Coalition joined Newsom to help paint the first stripe of bike lanes on Townsend Street, the first in 31 miles of new bike lanes.
