SF Bayview Man Joins 'Occupy Kids' Over Threats Of Losing Home
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- Anarchists and vandals may make up a small percentage of the protesters marching around San Francisco yelling at big banks, but one of them, a Vietnam veteran Geary Brown owns a truck and does contract construction and has lived in the Bayview District for decades.
He never imagined he would join forces with "those Occupy kids" he saw living in tents, but the movement is attracting a growing number of the elderly in fear of losing their homes.
KCBS' Doug Sovern Reports:
There he was, marching up California Street in protest of Bank of America and what he calls a rigged system that could cost him his home.
He said the slumping economy and his wife's pancreatic cancer left him unable to pay the mortgage.
"I tried to do a modification three or four times. Bank of America turned me down. After they purchased my house in an auction, they then tried to get me to pay them to occupy my own home," Brown said.
With the help of an assistance group he met through Occupy, Brown is staying put and hopes to keep his house.
"I end up getting a foreclosure letter, then an eviction, and I end up trying to fight back," Brown said this isn't about politics. For him, it's about justice.
