Several Of The Best Companies To Work For Are In San Francisco
Last month's Glassdoor report on its annual Best Places to Work was a perfect example of why San Francisco is a great place for businesses to operate. In the seventh annual employee's choice awards honoring 50 of the best large companies, more than half had offices in San Francisco.
Among the major American companies listed on the Glassdoor poll with a presence in San Francisco, were Bain & Company, Chevron, Proctor and Gamble and Google - which came in first overall in the nation. Other leading technology companies in the top 50 with offices in San Francisco were Facebook, Adobe, Apple and Linkedin.
In Glassdoor's other end of year poll - the Best Small and Medium Companies to Work For – one-third of the top companies have offices in San Francisco, including TubeMogul, Instart Logic and Quantcast.
According to Sausalito-based Glassdoor, winners were based upon anonymous reviews from eligible companies with more than 1,000 employees, over a one-year time period which ended November 2. Employees could submit only one validated review, were not allowed to receive any company incentives and had to meet certain guidelines. In order for a large company to qualify for the end of year awards, at least 50 validated employee reviews must have been submitted, while small and medium companies required 20 reviews.
During the past year, Google ranked top in the nation by receiving more than 500 reviews from anonymous employees and earned a 4.5 rating out of a possible five. Of those 519 reviewers, 92 percent would recommend Google to a friend and even more impressively, 97 percent approved of CEO and Google co-founder Larry Page and all-time ratings are nearly identical. Among the comments most commonly found in the Google reviews was the great work-life balance, the free food on-site three times a day and the glamorous work environment.
Of the 2,000 open positions with Mountain View-based Google, more than 700 are in the San Francisco Bay Area. Additionally there are 1,750 Google-related positions open in San Francisco. Both are good indicators that the current local tech boom will continue on for several months or longer; and in the process, will boost the Bay Area's overall economy.
