Service Cuts Coming To Larkspur Ferry
(KCBS) - Three afternoon runs on the Larkspur Ferry would be suspended this winter and the cost of a discounted fare on all Golden Gate ferries would go up under the latest proposal to close a budget deficit.
The kinder, gentler plan released Wednesday by the Golden Gate Bridge District leaves service on the Sausalito Ferry untouched. The Larkspur afternoon runs would resume in the spring.
"In the wintertime, we carry a slightly lower ridership, so we can move things around and tighten up the schedule a little bit," said spokeswoman Mary Currie.
KCBS' Barbara Taylor Reports:
An earlier proposal to close the agency's $89 million deficit projected over the next five years sparked passenger outrage.
Rather than a big fare hike on one line, discount fares paid with a Clipper card on any ferry would cost ten percent more.
Currie said the bridge district's board still needs to approve the proposal before it can take effect on January 1.
