Senior PG&E Engineer Warned Of Gas Pipeline Tracking System Problems Before San Bruno Blast
REDWOOD CITY (CBS/AP) -- A senior engineer said he warned Pacific Gas & Electric supervisors about problems with the computer gas pipeline tracking system but he was told to keep using it.
Todd Arnett's testimony came during a deposition on the hundreds of lawsuits stemming from the deadly 2010 San Bruno pipeline blast. The explosion killed eight people, injured dozens and destroyed 38 homes.
The testimony shows PG&E knew the computer errors could mean death or injury to the people who lived near the pipelines yet the utility chose not to fix the problem.
The engineer's testimony was included in a San Mateo County court motion filed Tuesday by attorneys for San Bruno pipeline explosion victims.
