Senate Confirms Female U.S. Attorney
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)_ The Senate has confirmed a federal prosecutor to lead the U.S. Attorney's Office for Northern California.
Many see the appointment as a signal of the Obama Administration's focus on white-collar crime.
Melinda Haag was nominated by the president several months ago and her appointment was approved by the Senate on Thursday before they recessed for the summer.

Haag was a Federal Prosecutor in both Northern and Southern California before going into private practice.
Stanford Law Professor Robert Weisberg, who directs the Criminal Justice Center, says Haag is a terrific choice.
"She's totally non-political, she's a real professional, and she has an ideal background in terms of breadth and depth in federal crime," said Weisberg.
Haag replaces Joseph Russoniello, who has done two stints as U.S. Attorney General.
