Security Increased For Bay Area Amtrak Passengers
MARTINEZ (KCBS) -- While Amtrak passengers don't have to go through increased security measures like pat-downs and full body scanners, that doesn't mean that security on the trains is lax.
The Martinez Amtrak station, a main stop along the Capitol Corridor, was a meeting place for many friends and family, who were preparing for the holiday weekend.
One train passenger said it beats other methods of travel.
KCBS' Dave Padilla Reports:
"I usually drive down, but this time, I'm taking the train because I don't like driving in the Bay Area," he said.
Many train passengers said they were also concerned about the increased security measures at airports.
Amtrak spokesperson Vernae Graham said there is security on the trains, but it is just not as transparent.
"There are random baggage checks throughout the system at some of the larger stations," she said. "We do have a heightened security presence on board our trains and in our stations."
Graham said this is the busiest time of the year for Amtrak train travel.
