Second Harvest Food Bank Seeks 6,000 Turkeys For Thanksgiving
SAN JOSE (KCBS) — Second Harvest Food Bank, which serves Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties, is scrambling to collect enough turkeys to feed hungry families this Thanksgiving.
With the holiday fast approaching, food bank officials said they are about 6,000 turkeys short. The earliness of the Thanksgiving holiday this year is not helping efforts.
"We need 12,000 turkeys this holiday season and right now we've got about 6,400-6,500," said Second Harvest CEO Kathy Jackson.

Jackson said while the economy has improved significantly in Silicon Valley, requests for food assistance continue to go up and they really need to make up for the turkey shortage.
"We're trying hard to address that continuing need," Jackson said.
Second Harvest, the largest local food bank in the Bay Area, is hoping to raise more than $12 million and two million pounds of food as part of their Holiday Food and Fund Drive.
