Seattle Takes Stanford CB Richard Sherman
RENTON, Wash. (CBS / AP) ― John Schneider kept with his plan of getting bigger defensive backs when the Seattle Seahawks took Stanford cornerback Richard Sherman with the first of two fifth-round picks in the NFL draft on Saturday.
Sherman fits the mold of what Schneider and coach Pete Carroll want in their cornerbacks — size. Sherman is 6-foot-2 and 195 pounds. He's also a versatile athlete, having played wide receiver earlier in his career at Stanford before making the transition to cornerback before his junior season.
Sherman missed most of the 2008 season after tearing the patellar tendon in his left knee. He was granted a medical redshirt and then made the transition to cornerback.
Sherman had 49 tackles and four interceptions his final season on The Farm.
