Police Join Rescue Teams In Search For Missing Oakland Toddler
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- Oakland police joined local teams Sunday in the search for 21-month-old Daphne Webb, a girl who disappeared from a parked car in East Oakland on Wednesday.
Search teams concentrated their efforts on a series of trails near the Webb home along Keller Avenue and Greenridge Drive, Oakland police spokeswoman Johnna Watson said.
A staging area was established near an apartment building at 750 Canyon Oaks Drive, in Oakland.
Daphne was reported missing on Wednesday morning by her father, John Webb, who left the girl in his car with an adult family member that is mentally disabled, police said.
While the father was in a supermarket, a potential suspect was seen walking away from carrying the girl, Watson said.
The California Highway Patrol issued an Amber Alert for the missing girl, and dozens of officers and police canines have since descended on the area in an effort to locate her.
Daphne Webb is described as black, with short, curly black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing orange two-piece pajamas with pink hearts, and pink socks, Watson said.
The suspect was described as a black or Hispanic woman between 30 and 40 years old with long black hair who was wearing a light-colored top and blue jeans, Watson said.
Anyone with information on the girl's whereabouts is asked to call Oakland police at (510) 238-3641 or 911.
