SCU Lightning Complex: Containment at 55 Percent; 378,000 Acres Burned
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- The SCU Lightning Complex fires had, as of Sunday night, consumed 378,157 acres of vegetation in various locations throughout Santa Clara, Alameda, Contra Costa, San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Merced and San Benito Counties, with containment of 55 percent, Cal Fire said.
Full containment is anticipated by Sept. 3, Cal Fire said.
Three firefighters and two civilians have been injured thus far and more than 100 large and small structures have been destroyed, Cal Fire said. More than 20,000 structures are still considered threatened as of Sunday night.
More than 1,900 firefighters from multiple agencies throughout the region have been battling this blaze, which by Sunday night had consolidated into two main fires, Cal Fire said.
Firefighters expect weather conditions to become less favorable over the next few days, with continued warming and lower humidity as the marine layer compresses. Highs well into the 90s with humidity in the 15 percent to 25 percent range are expected, Cal Fire said.
