School Lockdowns Prompted by Gun Scare
NEWARK, Calif. (KCBS/BCN) _ Two high schools were placed under lockdown on Thursday afternoon after a person was reportedly seen with a gun at one of the schools.
Students at Bridgepoint High School in Newark were told to stay in their classrooms shortly after 12:30 p.m.
Officials with the Newark Unified School District said Bridgepoint officials called police after hearing that there was someone on campus with a weapon.
The lockdown was lifted almost three hours later as police released students five at a time to go home for the day.
There was a separate lockdown at Kennedy High School in Fremont from about 2:30-3:00 p.m.
Fremont police said a student was detained at Kennedy, but no arrests were made. Investigators did not recover any weapons from either campus.
