Santa Rosa Nurses In Second Day Of 3-Day Strike

SANTA ROSA (CBS/AP) -- Nurses at a Sonoma County hospital are in the second day of a three-day strike protesting wage offers and other issues.

Officials with the Staff Nurses' Association say nurses at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, which represents 660 nurses at the hospital, walked off the job early Saturday.

Union president Sue Gadbois says the strike comes as union representatives and hospital officials disagree over a number of sticking points including pay and staffing issues.

But hospital officials say they need to control costs because of tighter operating margins and anticipated reductions in government health care reimbursements.

The striking nurses were joined by members of the Stationary Engineers union who work at the hospital, as well as at nearby Petaluma Valley Hospital.
