Worker Killed By Sheet Of Falling Glass In Santa Rosa
SANTA ROSA (CBS SF) - The Sonoma County coroner's office has identified the worker who was killed by falling sheets of glass Friday morning as 21-year-old Hugo Tapia of Windsor.
Tapia was employed by Volt Workforce Solutions, California Division of Occupational Safety and Health spokesman Peter Melton said Friday afternoon. The company has offices in Santa Rosa and San Francisco.
Melton said preliminary reports indicate Tapia and two other workers were moving an A-frame rack on rollers that contained seven 100-pound sheets of glass at Thermalsun Glass Products in the 3000 block of Brickway Boulevard in Santa Rosa.
"The initial report was the glass sheets fell on him. I'm guessing he died from the weight of it," Melton said.
There was no initial indication from Cal/OSHA or the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office that Tapia was cut by the glass.
Sheriff's Lt. Tim Duke said during the movement of the glass sheets, the A-frame tipped "causing the glass sheets to dislodge and topple" the worker.
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday, a coroner's office spokeswoman said.
