Bicyclist critically injured in Santa Rosa collision on Guerneville Road
A bicyclist was critically injured in a collision with a vehicle in Santa Rosa on Wednesday morning, according to police.
The collision was reported at about 7:35 a.m. near the intersection of Guerneville Road and Herbert Lane, just east of railroad tracks.
Santa Rosa police said their investigators determined that a blue Chevrolet Astro van was traveling west on Guerneville Road and when the van passed through the intersection with Herbert Lane, the bicyclist traveling east went into the path of oncoming traffic and was hit despite the van's driver attempting to avoid a collision.
The male bicyclist was taken to a hospital in critical condition. The driver stopped at the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said.
Roadways in the area were closed for hours but reopened later Wednesday morning. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Officer John Fisher at (707) 543-3600, ext. 8550.
