Update: Santa Cruz Police Arrest Dangerous Suspect After Search
SANTA CRUZ (CBS SF) -- Police in Santa Cruz have reopened the area of Felix and Laurel streets after a search for a possibly armed felony suspect Tuesday afternoon that ended with his arrest.
The Santa Cruz Police Department Twitter account posted about the arrest shortly before 7 p.m.
The 38-year-old suspect was taken into custody without incident, police said. He is facing charges of making criminal threats, assault with a deadly weapon and false imprisonment.
Earlier Tuesday, police officers and a SWAT team were searching the area for the suspect, who is possibly armed, according to authorities.
Santa Cruz police said the activity was happening in the area of Felix Street and Laurel Street next to Santa Cruz High School. The school has been reportedly placed on lockdown.
At least one tactical police vehicle was on the scene and people were being urged to avoid the area between Walti and Chestnut streets off of Laurel Street.
The Santa Cruz Sentinal reported that police first responded to a report of a possible battery among associates on the 200 block of Felix Street shortly before 1:30 p.m.
