Santa Cruz County Medical Marijuana Cooperative Damaged By Fire
SOQUEL (AP) -- Santa Cruz County authorities are investigating a suspected arson at a medical marijuana cooperative after an early morning fire Saturday caused an estimated $50,000 in damages.
Brianna Kovach, an owner of the Capitola Healing Association in Soquel said that security cameras captured footage of two young males using a hammer to break the co-op's front window and then throwing a Molotov cocktail inside, setting off the burglar alarms.
Kovach said she and her co-owner Chris Morganelli, who live nearby, rushed to the scene and were able to put out most of the blaze with a garden hose before firefighters arrived.
Authorities said none of the surrounding businesses were damaged. No arrests have been made, and the co-op is closed until further notice.
