Santa Clara's New Mayor Says 49ers Deals Need To Be Transparent
SANTA CLARA (CBS SF) -- Lisa Gillmor was sworn in Wednesday, ending uncertainty in Santa Clara since former Mayor Jamie Matthews abruptly resigned a day after the Super Bowl.
For a city council that has been divided in recent months, the 6-0 vote happened swiftly.
Santa Clara Mayor Lisa Gillmor said she doesn't want decisions made in back rooms.
"We have to do that all out in public, I think that's going to be my style," she said.
Mayor Gillmor says she will be transparent, especially when it comes to big development deals and Levi's stadium operations. She has been an outspoken critic of the 49ers -- opposing their plan to buy the youth soccer fields by the stadium, and calling for alcohol sales to end at halftime after violent attacks on fans.
The mayor said regarding the 49ers, "there's going to be a lot more discussion, a lot more interaction, a lot more community exposure to what's happening."
