Santa Clara University Offering New Entrepreneurship Program
SANTA CLARA (CBS SF) – Santa Clara University is offering a new minor in entrepreneurship to meet the growing demand for such programs in Silicon Valley.
Drew Starbird, Dean of the Leavey School of Business, said that for the most part, the idea came from the student body itself.
"We have a huge number of students who are interested in entrepreneurship. We are in the center of Silicon Valley, which is the heart of entrepreneurship and surrounded by entrepreneurs and start-ups," said Starbird. "Students are really clamoring for this type of program."
KCBS' Anna Duckworth Reports:
Starbird said the minor fits in with the school's mission to contribute to the economic growth of the community and is built around three subjects.
"First is business ideation, or how to bring a new idea to the market. Second is business plan development, which will help draw a roadmap for a new business," he said. "And the third is around experience and advice. We use internships and mentoring and advising to help the students build up their confidence and success."
Santa Clara University's new minor is open to all students regardless of their major.
