Santa Clara Unable To Hold On Late, Lose To USC

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Freshman Maurice Jones scored 29 points as Southern California beat Santa Clara 86-73 on Monday night.

Nikola Vucevic had 20 points and 10 rebounds while Bryce Jones added 15 points for the Trojans, who are 2-0 for just the second time in 10 seasons.

Kevin Foster led the Broncos (1-1) with 26 points and Marc Trasolini added 15.

USC trailed 52-51 before Maurice Jones scored eight points during a 15-5 run to help the Trojans put the Broncos away.

USC made 6-of-11 3-pointers and shot 57.4 percent from the field.

Alex Stepheson, who fractured his left hand in the Trojans' opener against UC Irvine on Sunday, played with a black cast and finished with six points and seven rebounds.

Maurice Jones scored 13 of his points in the first half to help USC take a 39-34 lead at intermission.
