Santa Clara County Voters Mail It In, In Big Numbers
SAN JOSE (KCBS) - Many Bay Area voters were headed to the polls Tuesday, but that wasn't technically the case in Santa Clara County, home to one of the highest local percentages of absentee voting.
Nearly 75% of registered voters in Santa Clara County vote by mail.
Still, Santa Clara County's election headquarters was bustling early Tuesday morning, as poll workers arrived to set up voting booths. A large blow-up Uncle Sam was positioned to greet voters as they arrived.
Santa Clara County's Acting Registrar of Voters, Elaine Larson was undecided when asked if she looked forward to a day of 100% vote-by-mail. "Um, yes and no," she Larson. "We're prepared either way but I still think we need to have options for people on election day."

City Council seats were being decided Tuesday in Sunnyvale and Cupertino. Voters in Cupertino were also considering whether to raise the city's hotel room tax.
Perhaps the most controversial election is in Palo Alto, where voters were being asked to decide whether to give the city more control over police and firefighter pay and benefits.
