Santa Clara County Looking For New Poet Laureate

SANTA CLARA (KCBS) -- Santa Clara County is seeking a candidate to be the poet laureate for the next two years.

The county is working in partnership with the private non-profit Arts Council Silicon Valley to fill the position that was created just a few years ago.

Anna Weldon, the Arts Council's director of communications, said it's a special job where you can inspire people.

KCBS' Betsy Gebhart Reports:

"It's to really elevate the consciousness of poetry and the written word throughout Santa Clara County and really inspire others to be aware of the beauty of poetry," said Weldon.

Weldon added the current poet laureate; Nils Peterson has created a poetic identity for Santa Clara County that pays a few thousand dollars for the two-year term.

The application deadline is November 22nd.
