San Rafael Bus Stop Shooting Suspect Arrested In New Orleans
SAN RAFAEL (CBS/AP) - A suspect in a shooting at the San Rafael Transit Center in December was arrested in New Orleans on Monday, a police spokeswoman said Tuesday afternoon.
Ladrakeous Sonny Dean, 24, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force at a home on Gladiolus Street in the city's Gentilly Terrace district, San Rafael police spokeswoman Margo Rohrbacher said.
Dean was visiting a friend, who was not aware of his fugitive status, for the Mardi Gras celebration, Rohrbacher said. He is being held at the Orleans Parish Prison pending his extradition to California.
Dean is suspected of shooting a 22-year-old man at close range on Platform D at the transit center on Tamalpais Avenue in downtown San Rafael around 1 p.m. on Dec. 14.
Witnesses said the shooter pulled up to the platform in a gold sedan, shot the victim and then drove off, according to police.
The victim ran a short distance after the shooting before he collapsed. He suffered serious injuries and was taken to Marin General Hospital, but has been released, Rohrbacher said.
Dean was on parole in Solano County for a home invasion robbery, Rohrbacher said.
San Rafael police have been following leads and working with the California Department of Justice and U.S. Marshals Service to locate Dean since the shooting, Rohrbacher said.
