San Mateo Water Polo Coach Pleads Not Guilty To Student Sex Assault
SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - A water polo coach at a San Mateo high school accused of engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old student pleaded not guilty Thursday to sexual assault charges, prosecutors said.
Joshua Tatro, 25, of El Granada, was arrested June 1 after police learned that a student at Aragon High School told school officials he had touched her inappropriately.
Tatro pleaded not guilty in South San Francisco on Thursday to charges of sexual assault and lewd acts with a minor, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office.
Tatro, who was employed at the school as a water polo and swim coach for the past year, engaged in sexual activity with the student, and also exchanged cellphone images of private body parts, prosecutors said.
The relationship allegedly occurred between October 2011 and this May, when the student reported it to authorities.
Tatro was out of custody on $25,000 bail and will return to court on Sept. 6 for the preliminary hearing.
