San Mateo Police Searching For Reckless Driver After Brief Chase
SAN MATEO (CBS SF) -- Police were searching for a reckless driver who dangerously evaded authorities in downtown San Mateo on Saturday.
Shortly after 5 p.m., police tried to make an enforcement stop on the driver of a black 1980s convertible Mustang talking on his cell phone while driving.
When the officer activated his vehicle's sirens and emergency lights to stop the driver, the suspect sped off to evade the officer, according to police.
The driver is described as a man in his 40s with blond hair, police said.
The black Mustang was seen speeding northbound on Palm Avenue near 25th Avenue, police said.
The Mustang sideswiped a moving car on Palm Avenue while evading police. The victim in the vehicle was not injured, but the victim's vehicle was damaged by the suspect vehicle, police said.
The suspect vehicle was traveling at speeds near 70 mph and ignored stop signs on Palm Avenue, according to police.
Police were unable to safely pursue the reckless driver and ceased to follow the Mustang.
