San Mateo Kung Fu Instructor Accused Of Fondling Students
SAN MATEO (CBS SF) -- A Redwood City man who taught Kung Fu at a San Mateo martial arts studio has been arrested on suspicion of lewd conduct with two girls, and he will be arraigned next week, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office.
Meng Ricky Wong, 36, worked as a Kung Fu instructor at Tat Wong Kung Fu Academy for more than a decade, from approximately 1999 to 2011, police said.
He was arrested by San Mateo police on March 12 on a $100,000 arrest warrant alleging four counts of lewd acts with a child after two young female students came forward saying Wong had fondled them.
District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said Wong posted bail the same night.
Wong is scheduled to appear in court on April 19 to be arraigned on those charges and an allegation that there were multiple victims, Wagstaffe said.
The charges carry a maximum sentence of 15 years to life in prison. Had there been only one alleged victim, Wagstaffe said, the maximum sentence would be 14 years in prison.
San Mateo police detectives believe that there may be other victims and are looking to speak with the parents of female Tat Wong students between 8 and 12 years old.
The two girls who have already come forward are 9 and 11, police said.
