San Mateo K-Mart Opens On Thanksgiving Day
SAN MATEO (KCBS)— Holiday shoppers hit the sales, spending money on Thanksgiving morning this year as Black Friday creeps its way into the actual holiday.
Hundreds of early birds, including Cheryl Medina who drove across the San Mateo Bridge from Hayward for what K-Mart calls its Doorbuster sale, got a head start a full day early this year at 6 a.m.
"I have 37 godchildren to shop for and today is the first day that we've ever actually started on Thanksgiving Day," Medina said.
Medina said her strategy actually saved her hundreds of dollars in deals and bargains.
"The pillow pets were only $4.99 so I was happy with that. The shoes were buy one get one free, so I got a lot of those shoes for the kids," she said.
KCBS' Anna Duckworth Reports:
Manager Samerra Chadfield said it's the first year they've opened on Thanksgiving morning and they quickly sold out of quite a few items.
"Some of the TVs that we had. I just had some gentleman ask me about some Spiderman toy and that was gone."
The stores hours are 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. Friday.
Marceline Cushing shopped at K-Mart and said she loved the option of getting some deals before her Thanksgiving meal adding that last year's Black Friday was just too "crazy".
