San Mateo-Hayward Bridge Closures Loom
SAN MATEO (CBS SF) -- The California Dept. of Transportation is reminding motorists that it will close the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge over two weekends later this month: October 19-22 and October 26-29. The full closure for all eastbound and westbound lanes will begin at 10 p.m. on Friday and continue until 5 a.m. on Monday. The bridge will be open for the weekday commute.
The full closure will allow crews to install a new seismic joint and replace 60 feet of the bridge deck just east of the high rise.
Caltrans is asking commuters to use alternate routes such as the Dumbarton Bridge, the Bay Bridge, or the southern route along Highway 237.
On the eastbound side (Foster City), the on-ramp from Edgewater Boulevard and Metro Center Boulevard will be closed. On the westbound side (Hayward), the on-ramp from Industrial Boulevard and Clawiter Road will be closed. All off-ramps will remain open. Mainline traffic will be guided to exit eastbound 92 at Foster City Boulevard and westbound 92 at Clawiter Road. Westbound lane closures may begin as early as 11 a.m.
Changeable message signs will be posted throughout the Bay Area to notify motorist of the upcoming closures, Caltrans said.
Motorists can visit the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge project page of the Caltrans website for updates on the progression of the construction.
