Pedestrian Killed Hit & Run Crash In San Mateo; Suspect Vehicle Found
SAN MATEO (KCBS) — A pedestrian was killed after being struck in a crash involving two cars on El Camino Real near Highway 92 in San Mateo Monday morning.
The San Mateo County coroner's office identified the victim as 58-year-old Scott Van Dyke, a San Mateo resident.
One of the vehicles involved in the crash, a white Toyota, fled the scene but has since been located, according to police. The driver, a 67-year-old San Mateo man, was cooperating with the investigation.
The second vehicle, a black Honda, driven by a 35-year-old San Francisco man, remained at the crash site.
The crash was reported around 6:15 a.m., according to a fire dispatcher.
Police said they are investigating whether Van Dyke had come from a nearby homeless encampment. He was not in a crosswalk when he was struck.
Significant traffic delays were reported as police and paramedics responded.

Southbound El Camino was closed from Borel Avenue to 20th Avenue, and southbound El Camino ramps from both eastbound and westbound Highway 92 were closed for an extended period. Roadways were back open by 11 a.m.
