San Mateo Bridge Repair Costs Could Top $1 Million
SAN MATEO (AP) - It cost $1 million to repair a 10-inch crack in a San Mateo Bridge beam.
And the Bay Area Toll Authority tells the San Mateo Times the price tag could climb.
The crack was discovered during a routine inspection on Oct. 13, leading to a four-day closure of a travel lane while the crack was repaired.
The California Department of Transportation and its contractor installed new steel plates. The toll authority pays for maintenance of the region's bridges.
Toll authority executive director Steve Heminger says in a report that Caltrans doesn't know what caused the crack and more work is possible.
