San Leandro Woman Helps Police Track Down Burglar Through Craigslist
SAN LEANDRO (CBS SF) -- A San Leandro woman whose home was burglarized earlier this month was able to lead investigators to the suspect when he attempted to resell her items on Craigslist, police said.
The burglary occurred on July 3 in the 300 block of Dowling Boulevard. The resident returned home to find that her door had been forced open in her absence, police said.
She told police that jewelry and a computer had been stolen.
The victim began monitoring Craigslist to see if the suspect would attempt to sell the stolen goods, and when she spotted items that looked like her property, she notified police.
Detectives, posing as buyers, scheduled an appointment with the suspect to view the items.
When they met with the suspect, later identified as 23-year-old Bryson Bagby, of Hayward, they confirmed that the property was stolen and he was taken into custody, police said.
"The victim of this crime helped our investigators tremendously," police Lt. Randy Brandt said. "Any initial research a victim can do without putting themselves at risk increases the likelihood of solving crimes."
