San Leandro Woman Had Ended Relationship With Man Charged In Fatal Stabbing
SAN LEANDRO (CBS SF) - A San Leandro woman had broken off her relationship with her boyfriend about a month before he allegedly stabbed her to death last Friday, according to court documents released Wednesday.
25-year-old Edgar Vasquez and 24-year-old Annellie Marie Moreno were involved in a dating relationship for about a year and during that time she gave birth to a daughter who is now six months old, according to a probable cause statement by San Leandro police Sgt. Ted Henderson.
Although Moreno ended their relationship a month ago, until last Friday she and Vasquez had "maintained an amicable relationship due to their daughter," Henderson said.
Vasquez is charged with murder for allegedly killing Moreno in the 300 block of Best Avenue in San Leandro at about 4 p.m. on Friday.
He was arraigned in Alameda County Superior Court in Hayward on Tuesday and was scheduled to return to court next Monday to be assigned an attorney and possibly enter a plea.
Henderson said a witness who was a friend of Moreno told police that she saw Vasquez "hanging out" in front of Moreno's residence Friday afternoon.
According to Henderson, the witness said that when Moreno got into her car, which was parked in her driveway, Vasquez confronted her as she sat in the driver's seat, an argument ensued and Vasquez "began stabbing her multiple times in her chest and neck with a stabbing instrument believed to be a knife."
Moreno succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, Henderson said.
According to San Leandro police spokesman Sgt. Robert Sanchez, the friend of Moreno who witnessed the stabbing gave investigators Vasquez's home address, which is in the 1600 block of 162nd Avenue in San Leandro, Sanchez said.
Police went to the home late Friday night but Vasquez refused orders to surrender, Sanchez said.
He said the Alameda County sheriff's K-9 unit was deployed, the sheriff's dog entered the house and bit Vasquez and he was forcibly arrested at about 2 a.m. on Saturday.
Vasquez was then taken to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, where he was treated for injuries he sustained while fighting with deputies, Henderson said. He was later transferred to the county jail, where he remains in custody.
