San Jose Woman Posing As Lawyer Convicted Of Grand Theft
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- A San Jose woman who served a prison sentence from a 2004 grand theft conviction has been sentenced in Santa Clara County Superior Court to another term for defrauding victims of $124,000, prosecutors said.
Olga Elvira Pardo, 49, received a three-year sentence this week from her July 1 conviction for grand theft for misrepresenting herself in taking money from four victims between 2008 and 2011, according to the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office.
She is to serve two years in county jail, one year of supervised release, and pay restitution to the victims, according to prosecutors.
Pardo, who also used the alias Angela Farfan, was charged with convincing a man to give her $100,000 in fees with the assurance of helping him win a lawsuit when she was not a lawyer, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors said she also obtained a fee of $12,000 from a mother and son by telling them she would rescue their home from foreclosure when she was not qualified to do so.
The defendant collected another $12,000 in "application fees" from a female student whom she convinced had won a non-existent full scholarship, dubbed "Abrozos and Books," to pay for her education, prosecutors said.
Pardo admitted to the court that she had been convicted in 2004 for grand theft, insufficient funds check and unlawful use of personal identifying information, according to prosecutors.
