San Jose Shooting Leaves 1 Dead; Possibly Gang-Related

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- A man was fatally injured in a possibly gang-related shooting in East San Jose early Thursday morning, according to police.

Police received reports of a person shot in the 2300 block of Dobern Avenue, near the Interstate Highway 680 overpass, at 12:36 a.m.

Officers located the victim and he was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:49 a.m., police said.

Police said preliminary investigations revealed that the shooting appeared to be gang-related.

The victim and several acquaintances were standing outside a residence when an unidentified suspect approached the group, opened fire and struck the victim, according to police.

The suspects fled the scene before police arrived and remained at large.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending proper notification of the victim's next of kin, police said.

The death marked the city's 36th homicide, according to police.
