San Jose Police Sergeant, Wife Found Dead In Apparent Murder-Suicide
GILROY (CBS SF) -- Gilroy police are investigating a murder-suicide Sunday night that involved a San Jose police sergeant and his wife.
The sergeant, identified as Christopher Shimek, 51, and his wife, 43-year-old Lynn Shimek, were found dead around 9:40 p.m. at a home in the 9400 block of Rodeo Drive in Gilroy, police said.
Officers were dispatched to the residence at the request of family and friends of the Shimeks, who were worried about the couple after not being able to contact them, police said.
Shimek had suffered an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to police. He and his wife were the only people at the home.
Gilroy police on Monday said while there is no recent report of domestic violence or disturbances at the home, a record search for the Rodeo Drive home from 2004 until now revealed that on March 6, 2007, officers responded to a call from someone reporting that Shimek allegedly hit a stepson "in a rage."
His wife had requested that an officer speak with her and a child, but did not want further police action, according to Gilroy police.
Shimek was a 16-year veteran of the San Jose Police Department.
Gilroy police are investigating the murder-suicide.
