San Jose Nonprofit Distributes School Supplies To Low-Income Families
SAN JOSE (KCBS) - People stood in line for hours outside Sacred Heart Community Service to register for the Pack-a-Back program on Friday.
Teresa, a single mom with two kids, said she can't afford to buy backpacks for her two children. "Everything's expensive. It's just expensive to live now."

Sacred Heart spokesman Jay Pecot said people started lining up at 11pm the night before.
"A lot of people here lost their jobs in the last 6 months to a year and now they're having to worry about housing, gas, food," Pecot said. "And you don't want them to have to make a tough choice that affects their children."
Pecot said they hope to give away 2,000 backpacks filled with school supplies on August 12th but to meet that goal they need more help from the community.
