Bay Area Mayors In Sacramento To Defend Redevelopment Agencies
SAN JOSE (KCBS) – Governor Jerry Brown is meeting Wednesday with mayors from the state's 10 biggest cities, where topic A will be the governor's proposal to eliminate redevelopment agencies.
The mayors from Oakland, San Jose and San Francisco are among those meeting in Sacramento.
KCBS' Mike Colgan Reports:
"What's shocking is that the voters back in November voted overwhelmingly to protect local government revenues from state raids," said Reed. "This is just another version of local raids on state governments, so it's shocking that they've already forgotten the election just two months ago."
Reed is in Sacramento just one day after learning pension costs will be more than previously estimated.
"A year ago we thought the shortfall for the fiscal year would be probably $40 million, and now it's up to $110 million, primarily because the pension costs continue to escalate every time we get new numbers from our retirement boards," said Reed.
He said this will mean even more service cuts and layoffs.
