San Jose Mayor Asks For Meeting With MLB On A's-To-San Jose Move
SAN JOSE (KCBS) – San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed has requested a face-to-face meeting with Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig to talk about the city's desire to become the home of the Oakland A's.
Mayor Reed sent a letter Tuesday, asking for the sit-down meeting and hoping to break the years-long stalemate over the future of the team. In the one page letter, Reed stated that he hopes to avoid "additional litigation" over the A's.

Just last month, San Jose Councilman Sam Liccardo, who represents the downtown area, made some waves when he suggested suing Major League Baseball to move the process along.
"Baseball's antitrust exemption is hanging by a legal thread. All it takes is one lawsuit against the San Francisco Giants," he said. "And not just the Giants, but many Major League owners could be very upset with the results."
Selig assigned a special committee to study the A's proposed move to San Jose four years ago. The San Francisco Giants have long objected to the move, claiming territorial rights to San Jose once AT&T Park was built.
Officials with Major League Baseball would not comment on Reed's letter.
A's co-owner Lew Wolff tells the San Jose Mercury News he knew Reed was planning to write a letter to Commissioner Seelig and called it a "logical move."
