San Jose Man Wanted For Murder Of Couple In Front Of Their Kids Extradited From Mexico
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- A man arrested Thursday in the 2012 murder of a man and a woman may have been the ex-boyfriend of the female victim and killed the San Jose couple after they reunited following a separation.
The motive of Pedro Medina, arrested Thursday in the shooting deaths of Pedro Jimenez, 28, and Marybel Jimenez, 27, on July 23, 2012, may have been retribution over the couple's reconciliation, the couple's neighbor told San Jose police after the incident.
Medina was taken into custody Thursday in the Guadalajara area of Mexico and extradited to San Jose thanks to the cooperation of the Office of the Mexican Attorney General and the U.S. Marshals Office, San Jose police Lt. Mike Kihmm said.
He was being held Friday in the county jail with no bail allowed, and is tentatively scheduled to appear in court Friday, according to jail records.
On July 23, 2012, a neighbor made the grim discovery of the dead bodies of Pedro and Marybel Jimenez at the couple's residence in the 300 block of North Seventh Street and reported it to police at about 4:30 a.m. that day.
The neighbor, Renee Zarate, said she heard screaming from within the Jimenez residence before the fatal shots were fired and then she saw a man in a black hooded sweatshirt flee from the home.
Zarate said she gathered the couple three children, aged 3, 5 and 8, and guided them past their parents' bodies and out of the house, concerned that the gunman might return.
San Jose homicide detectives two days later identified Medina as a suspect in the double homicide and believed he was en route south to Los Angeles, San Fernando, San Diego or Mexico.
On July 27, 2012, police found a black 2006 Nissan Maxima believed to have been owned by Medina, but declined to disclose where it was located.
Medina, who was known to have a tattoo of the "Grim Reaper" on his lower leg and the initials "PMC" on his right upper back, had used aliases to avoid detection, police said.
