San Jose Man Gets 3 Years For Lying On Citizenship Form
SAN JOSE (CBS / AP) -- A San Jose man is spending the first days of a three-year prison sentence for lying on a naturalization form.
Hassan Abpikar was sentenced Monday after he was convicted in November of making a false statement under oath on a citizenship application and committing perjury during an interview with an immigration officer,
Prosecutors say Abpikar failed to disclose on his application form that he had been arrested on suspicion of burglary and other charges a few days before he filled out his application.
He also gave a fake address.
Besides being ordered to serve time in prison, the 50-year-old Abpikar was also ordered to pay a $5,000 fine.
