San Jose Man Charged With Murder In Girlfriend Stabbing

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) - The Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office has charged a 48-year-old man with the murder of his girlfriend at their San Jose apartment last week.

Peter Shui is suspected of stabbing his 33-year-old girlfriend Lijia Zheng to death early Friday morning at an apartment complex in the 4200 block of Albany Drive, according to police.

Police said Shui called 911 around 2:40 a.m. on Friday and confessed to killing his girlfriend. Dispatchers kept him on the phone until officers responded and took him into custody.

Zheng was found suffering from stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the apartment. Her death marks San Jose's third domestic violence-related homicide this year.

The motive for the stabbing remains under investigation.

Shui remained in custody in Santa Clara County Jail without bail.

He was arraigned on one count of murder on Wednesday and will return to court for a plea hearing on Tuesday.
